Volunteer Caregivers Program
Since July of 2015, I have been a volunteer at Caring Hands, an organization affiliated with John Muir Health Services in Walnut Creek, with about 300 volunteers. I serve the organization as a volunteer in the services provided, and also serve on the Board of Directors.
Caring Hands is an organization that has for the past 18 years been serving the senior community in the East Bay in their day to day endeavors such as house visits, medical visits, household chores, support and companionship.
My commitment and passion stems from when Caring Hands provided this service to my ailing Mom with help from a wonderful gentleman whose dedication helped me at a time when every hour was a gift. I promised myself that one day I would want to give back the same, which in turn was provided to my Mom, and in turn me.
I visit a couple, both in their nineties, on a weekly basis and what I have got back from them is a sense of amazement, joy and fulfillment beyond words. We have visited almost every restaurant in Concord, Walnut Creek and Martinez, and each week I look forward to our meeting as if it was the very first time. Over the holidays we invite them to our house for a family dinner as they are part of our family and circle of friends.
We are always looking for volunteers as our senior population keeps growing exponentially, so if there is any interest please do let me know by emailing me at email@example.com.
