Five members of RINA volunteered to assist with the production of the 21st Annual Women of Taste fundraiser event for Girls Inc. of Alameda County. One of the East Bay’s largest and most recognized food and wine events, the Women of Taste event is an evening full of delicious food and wine, live music, and an exciting two tier auction. The RINA volunteers lent their services to a variety of tasks during the event, including assisting the food vendors with their booth set ups and handing out samples to event attendees at the Aidell Sausage booth. The volunteer shift turned out to be an enjoyable and fun-filled evening, and considering the size of the impressive turn out, appeared to be a major success in raising funds for the Girls Inc. organization.
Girls Inc. of Alameda County is a local branch of the Girls Inc. national nonprofit organization, “which provides vital educational programs to millions of American girls, particularly those in high-risk, underserved areas.”
Specifically, in 2011, our local Girls Inc. branch, “served over 7,500 girls and their families through year-round academic, enrichment and skills building programs, as well as counseling services. The purpose of these programs — specifically designed for girls ages 5-18 — is to expand girls’ capacity for confident and responsible adulthood, economic independence, and personal fulfillment. Girls Inc. offers award-winning local and national programs that also build self-esteem, foster creativity, and promote critical thinking skills.”
This is RINA’s second year contributing volunteer efforts to this incredible event by Girl’s Inc. It was a natural pairing, truly, as the members of the volunteer team for these last two years have consisted of members of RINA’s own Women’s Initiative Network. The Women’s Initiative Network is a group within RINA designed for and focused upon the further development and professional progression of our company’s female workforce. The WIN is made up of everyone from Stockholders, to Accountants, to Administrative Assistants, and has been a group in motion since 2010.
