How to Engage Millennial Donors
The City Club of San Francisco
9th Floor, Library Room
Figuring out how to attract “next gen” donors is a challenge for many charities. While donors in their 20s and 30s are keen to volunteer, they also demand more transparency and detailed information before donating to a nonprofit. Groups that can figure out how to use the right tools to channel the energy of young supporters–and decipher how the giving patterns of younger generations differ from those of their parents and grandparents–will soon have the upper hand. You’ll hear from Leena Barakat, a philanthropic advisor at the Tides Foundation (and millennial herself!), about the right approaches, tactics and tools necessary to maximize millennial-donor engagement that differs from “the old ways” of fundraising and development.
Our Speaker:
Leena Barakat is a Strategic Partnerships Advisor, leading new partnership and development opportunities at Tides. Prior to her role at Tides, she spent over 8 years working across the nonprofit, social enterprise and philanthropic sectors to advance social justice causes and business development opportunities simultaneously. She has a Masters in Global Development and Social Justice, with emphasis on Corporate Citizenship from St. Johns University and completed an Advanced Project Management Certification from Stanford University. She also holds a B.A in International Studies from University of California, San Diego.
