General Use of
Tax Notebook and Tax Notebook Toolkit
- Security
Time-out
For
your security and the security of your clients' tax information, Tax
Notebook and Tax Notebook Toolkit automatically require users to log in
again after 20 minutes of inactivity. Depending on your connection
speed, Toolkit users may need to log in again after uploading a large
number of Pro Forma files. Our testing using a T1
connection shows that, on average, this occurs after uploading
approximately 1,200 files.
- Page Loading
Issues
Since
a number of pages interact with ProSystem fx Tax, please
make sure each page has fully loaded before trying to perform Toolkit
functions. Likewise, every page in Tax Notebook is saved when your
clients navigate from one page to the next within Tax Notebook. Your
clients should make sure each page has fully loaded before continuing to
enter their tax data. The completion of the loading process is indicated
by the word "Done" in the bottom left corner of your browser
window.
- Pop-up Blockers
If you are using pop-up blocking software, it must be
disabled.
- Printing Issues
The printable
version of your return appears in a pop-up window. Pop-up blockers must
be disabled to print your return.
When using an Adobe¨ Reader¨ product that displays PDF files on a
Macintosh, your Adobe window may display behind the browser window.

When moving from page to page or attempting to print, you or your
clients may encounter the following error messages:

- Toolkit Only: Using Tax
Notebook Toolkit without ProSystem fx Tax Installed
Some Toolkit functions will be limited, including creating Notebooks
from pro forma clients and creating returns. To access Toolkit in this
manner, you must go to tax.cchgroup.com, choose ProSystem fx Support from the Support menu
at the top of the page, then click on the link for ProSystem fx Tax Notebook Toolkit.

Requirements for Tax Notebook and Tax Notebook Toolkit
Tax Notebook and Tax Notebook Toolkit require the
following browser settings to allow dynamic programming.
- Pop-ups
must be allowed for this site.
- Cookies
must be allowed. Note: IE 6.x users must set the Privacy setting to Medium
or lower.
- ActiveX
controls must be enabled.
- JavaScript
must be enabled.
The site is best viewed with browser text size set to Medium, which is
usually the default setting. Learn how to adjust your browser text size.
If your internet connection requires a proxy server, you
need to ensure that your browser settings are set up for both HTTP and secure
sites. Learn how to adjust your proxy settings.
Tax Notebook and Tax Notebook Toolkit require a
resolution of at least 800 x 600 pixels and are best viewed with system fonts
set to Small Fonts. Learn how to adjust your Windows display properties.
Adobe¨ Reader¨
4.05 or higher must be installed to print or view your client's tax data and
some administrative reports.

Notebook Toolkit on a Novell network
A Novell patch is required for Windows XP Pro users who have installed
the SP2 upgrade.
