CLARS AUCTION GALLERY
Harvey Clar began auctioning in 1948, selling commercial and some estate property. In 1971, he opened his first auction gallery of antiques and fine art. Harvey Clar sold the Estate Auction Gallery in 1996 to Redge Martin, an Oakland native who previously worked at Butterfield & Butterfield. He provides two-thirds of the auctioneering and appraising and is an integral part of the Gallery’s operations. Buyers and sellers come from all over the United States and worldwide. In June 2004, the gallery began conducting simultaneous online bidding through eBay. Buyers worldwide can preview over 1200 items online one week prior to the auction. The Gallery holds two-day estate auctions every four weeks throughout the year. Mr. Martin advised that 3,000 to 5,000 people attend the monthly auctions and that 60,000 to 80,000 items pass through his Gallery during the year.
